Hi, I’m Carolyn Hua—a product designer, former graphic designer and front-end developer, and forever a curious observer of how people interact with the world.
A big part of my work (and life) is designing for ease—for the moments when things just work and the user doesn’t have to think twice. It’s about noticing the friction they don’t, and removing it before it slows them down. And I’m currently looking for my next full-time role where I can keep designing with care.
You need a design partner, not just a designer. I ask the hard questions, map out the big picture, and collaborate closely to make sure design supports the product—not just decorates it.
You need a team liaison between design, product, and engineering. I’ve been a front-end developer and a brand/graphic designer, so I know how to speak each team’s language—and advocate for good experiences from all sides.
You need a designer who can own the end-to-end. From information architecture and wireframes to polished UIs and dev-ready specs, I have experience taking products from zero to launch with precision and care.
As the only product designer at Ultraviolet, I led the comprehensive product strategy for a full app redesign, including conducting user flow analyses to resolve major pain points, and aligning user models with business objectives. I routinely designed each of the app’s features, laid out responsive prototypes, and mapped out future versions with our lead developers. I was responsible for the entire design system, and the executed deliverance of the product (Android, iOS, and Web).
After months of design iterations and moderated user testing, our app re-launched with a result of 2,600% increase in revenue and $387K in profit in 6 months.
At the start of this role, I was responsible for company brand guidelines, product graphics, and Ultraviolet’s responsive website design. Wanting to grow in product design, I took the initiative — learning usability and interface techniques from the head product designer and online courses, gradually taking on more product responsibilities.
My focus shifted to creating new feature mockups, collaborating cross-functionally with engineers and data analysts on rollouts, and presenting creative solutions to stakeholders while aligning with requirements.
At USC Viterbi Admissions, I was responsible for the design and maintenance of the department’s websites for 8,000+ users. I optimized web layouts based on departmental needs, and occasionally contributed to intricacies behind the user experience of the Experience Viterbi App.
For Frontida’s health management app, I helped design internal UI tools and modular health solutions, alongside Product, Research, and Engineering. Led brand guideline development for the startup’s rebrand and structured the app architecture around specific healthcare team needs.
